CDC Report: Maternity Care Mistreatment Disparities

According to a recent report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in five women, or 20%, have reported experiencing mistreatment during pregnancy and delivery care. The rates of reported mistreatment are notably higher among Black, Hispanic, and multiracial women. Types of mistreatment cited include: not receiving answers to requests for assistance, being yelled at or reprimanded, violations of physical privacy, and being threatened with the denial of care or being forced into unwanted treatments. Additionally, the study found that women without insurance or those on public coverage reported instances of mistreatment more frequently compared to those with private insurance.
